This is a part-time contractor 1099 position.  The Billing Specialist is responsible participating in all facets of the billing department functions surrounding invoice setup, correction, and distribution. In addition, the position will provide support to the Collections Department and to cash application. These duties include reviewing and distribution of customer pre-bills, maintaining accurate invoice distribution setup, and working through various invoicing issues.

• Handles multiple third party insurances billing transactions.
• Review of AR aging reports to insure all claims that can be billed are worked within timeliness requirements set by each payer. Re-submits for reconsideration of payment.  
• Process written appeals to collect on denied claims.
• Prepares logs for nursing team to list patients in need of medical records for Medi-Cal TAR documents (Monthly authorization for TSS).
• Audit and submission of medical documents to submit for authorizations to allow billing to be submitted.
• Ability to research payer requirements including proper assignment of HCPCS codes and ICD-10 coding.
• Process insurance verifications prior to delivery of equipment to mitigate risk of non-payment.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance in all aspects of job duties.
• Maintain current knowledge of various payer regulations and policies/compliance.
• Review and mailing of patient pay statements.
• Processing and posting of AR adjustments.
• Processes re-applications of payments/credits on facility owed balances.
• Posting of payments to AR
• Assists with various other clerical duties related to monthly billing to facility accounts.
• Processing of AR Write-Off’s.
• Assist QA team with processing of orders into billing system. This requires full and diverse knowledge of all billing processes, contracts, inventory items, procedure codes for all payer types.  
• Good understanding and knowledge of the billing systems master files. Includes pricing, insurances, facilities, inventory, AR transactions and various reports.  
• Other duties as assigned by Customer Service and Reimbursement Manager.
• Complete all required training applicable to assigned position.
• Additional duties as requested or required.

High School Diploma or equivalent

• Previous medical billing experience 1 year
• Understanding of how to interpret “explanation of benefits” received from various insurance payers.
• Ability to analyze and research detailed transactions and resolve complex issues to overturn and receive payments.
• Demonstrate problem solving ability with strong organization and time management skills.
• Must be detailed oriented and accurate.
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure including strict deadlines while maintaining professionalism at all times

• 1 year of experience in DME
• Ability to multi-task and utilize various systems and software applications; including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Word), database software’s.
