  • Position Summary

    The Commodity Manager coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing and engineering departments to acquire inventory in a cost effective and timely manner. Acquires and maintains technical understanding of products purchased. Performs cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities. Obtains materials, components, equipment and services. Develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are inadequate. Monitors the cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. May recommend cost saving proposals including make versus buy analysis, alternative sourcing and vendor evaluation criteria. At higher levels may require domestic or global expertise of assigned commodities. Position participates in the development and execution of a commodity strategy.


    Major Duties & Responsibilities

    ·         Sources new Product and product to replace existing suppliers as required – issues RFQ or RFP

    ·         Identify and implement Cost Savings initiatives

    ·         Works with Engineering for NPI to determine which supplier to use based on Product, Quality, Delivery and Price as well as Design for Manufacturability

    ·         Assist with Purchasing issues as the next step when Buyer cannot resolve

    o    Supplier issues for On Time Delivery

    o    Invoice issues for quantity or pricing

    ·         Leads negotiations with supplier to establish Lead Time, Pricing, EOQ…

    ·         Author and keeper of Long-Term Agreement with supplier

    ·         Responsible for Supplier data collection and consolidation

    ·         Issues Supplier Score Card

    ·         Coordinates and leads Semi Annual or Annual meetings with key suppliers

    ·         Supply market analysis and benchmarking

    ·         Design and execute sourcing initiatives

    ·         Identification of supplier risk and mitigation plans

    Required Education

    Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.

    Required Skills & Experience

    ·         5-7 Previous experience in strategic sourcing required.

    ·         Knowledge and previous experience in the PCB, electronics and electrical parts sourcing is a required

    ·         Previous knowledge of medical equipment and finished goods is a plus

    ·         Knowledge of SAP, manufacturing processes, and technical drawings is preferred.

    ·         Candidates for this position must have strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, and be comfortable with other computer systems including the internet and database programs.

    ·         Candidates must have a confident and consistent approach to customer and vendor contact.

    ·         This position requires strong negotiation skills, communication skills, and fluency in English.

    ·         Organization and attention to detail are vital.

    ·         Up to 20% travel may be required.

    Preferred Skills, Experience & Education

    ·         Previous knowledge of medical equipment and finished goods is a plus

    ·         Knowledge of SAP, manufacturing processes, and technical drawings is preferred.
