  • Position Summary

    The Supply Planner/Buyer is responsible for managing all activities involved with procuring the right goods to arrive at the right place and right time consistent with achieving customer service, inventory and cost targets, while effectively collaborating with and communicating key supply chain information and value across the organization.


    Major Duties & Responsibilities

    • Generate and manage purchase orders and buying with 3rd party vendors in accordance with forecast, orders, inventory targets and other planning variables to achieve service level and inventory turn goals while minimizing costs
    • Work closely with manufacturing, distribution, customer service and suppliers to manage purchase orders based on inventory availability, forecast/sales, department resources, changing requirements and customer service needs.
    • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities related to key supply chain performance drivers; e.g.- safety stock optimization, lead time reduction, minimum-order-quantity reduction, on-time delivery, etc.
    • Develop and support reporting and metrics relevant to the planning function. Track and analyze metrics: learn from occurrences where performance to targets is not met and develop action plans
    • Actively seek out and explore new, more efficient tools and processes with which to execute supply planning and replenishment tasks. Continuously optimize systemic parameters to improve service and inventory health
    • Analyze sources of supply volatility and recommending appropriate action plans
    • Provide the organization with data and information required to support the execution of the company’s strategic goals and objectives. Interact with multiple functional areas to balance high levels of customer satisfaction and costs to the company
    • Lead or participate on key supply chain projects to support lifecycle transitions, systems upgrades, production/distribution functions, process improvement initiatives, etc.
    • Facilitate successful product launch introductions via supply chain planning activities related to new product development
    • Establish consistent standardized processes, reports and methods of managing supply aligned with best-practice benchmarks
    • Resolve any AP invoicing errors and address root cause challenges
    • Establish consistent credibility related to supply chain performance, communications, commitments and timeline execution
    • Promote supply chain transparency, collaboration and communication across the organization

    Required Education

    4-year degree in supply chain, business, logistics or related field

    Required Skills & Experience

    • 3-5+ years supply chain experience: supply planning/buying, inventory management, safety stock methodologies, E2E planning, logistics operations, etc.
    • Robust experience with MS-Excel including pivot tables and advanced functions
    • Skilled with data query tools, data mining and data warehousing applications
    • Strong, proven analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to define problems, collect and refine data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and implement solutions
    • Familiarity with developing/managing key performance indicators such as OTIF, in-stock, inventory turns, WOS, lead times, etc.
    • Advanced understanding of time-phased inventory management principles
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to establish strong cross-functional working relationships
    • Experience managing both MTS/MTO supply planning models
    • Ability to work independently
    • <10% travel long-term; potential for 2-4 weeks short-term upfront travel (domestic) to facilitate training and on-boarding

    Preferred Skills, Experience & Education

    • SAP ECC experience preferred or with other best-in-class ERP planning software application(s): e.g.- Oracle JD Edwards, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar
    • Professional Supply Chain certification; e.g. - APICS or similar
