Position Summary

The Field Repair Technician is responsible for equipment repairs including inspections, testing, and re-certifying durable medical equipment according to manufacturer’s guidelines.  Field Technicians must follow proper protocols for handling clean/dirty equipment, decontamination of equipment and preparation for redistribution, and record keeping.  Previous warehouse or related experience preferred.  Technicians will utilize Healthcare's preferred software for entering Work Order and Non-Work Order Activities on a daily basis.

 

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test and re-certify durable medical equipment following manufacturer’s specifications.  (i.e. hospital beds, wheel chairs, patient lifts, oxygen concentrators, and mattress pumps)
  • Troubleshoot to determine causes of operating errors and knowledge of how to repair.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of service such as cleaning, lubricating and adjusting equipment.
  • Test and calibrate components and equipment following manufacturer’s manuals and troubleshooting techniques, using hand tools, power tools and measuring devices.
  • Keep accurate records of all maintenance or service performed.
  • Responsible for traveling to warehouse locations to repair equipment or picking up equipment and returning it to the warehouse for repair
  • Assists with Shipping and Receiving as required.
  • Maintains work area in order to keep neat, clean, and organized.
  • Attends company in-service education classes.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by supervision.
  • Logs all activities into the preferred database
  • Keeps track of all travel receipts and complies with all company policies regarding expensed items
  • Travels off-site to assigned warehouses to perform on-site repairs as needed.
  • All employees are required to attend education workshops on excellent customer service, review pertinent industry literature, attend in-services on new product(s) and technology when provided, and avails self of audio and videotapes for additional training.

Required Skills & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Skills, Experience & Education

  • 6 months of related skills and training on repairing equipment, preferably circuit boards and blowers.
  • Able to read and comprehend manuals provided by equipment manufacturers to maintain current knowledge and perform annual maintenance.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Should have basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The Service Technician may at times drive a gasoline or diesel powered, van or box truck, on company property or on a public highway.  The individual must possess or be able to complete requirements for a DOT Physical.  Will be responsible for mobile repairs onsite or pick up equipment and bring back to the warehouse for repairs.  This position can and will include up to 50% travel.
